Checks to make first
- A real business address and a phone number that is answered
- Public liability insurance, which they should be happy to show you
- Reviews on independent platforms, not only on their own website
- Photos of recent, similar work
- Whether they belong to a recognised trade body or approved-trader scheme
What a good quote looks like
- Written, with the work described clearly
- A fixed price, or a clear explanation of what could change it
- States whether scaffolding, materials, waste removal and VAT are included
- Explains the guarantee and what it covers
- Includes photos of the problem
Questions worth asking
- What is causing the problem, and how will the repair deal with it?
- Who will do the work, and will anything be subcontracted?
- How will you protect my property and clear up afterwards?
- What happens if you find more damage once you start?
Warning signs
- Cold callers who say they noticed a problem while passing
- Pressure to decide today, or a discount that expires on the spot
- Requests for full payment in cash up front
- No written quote, no address or no insurance
- Being told you need a whole new roof without any evidence
Cheapest is not always best
A very low price often means a quick cosmetic fix. Compare what each quote actually includes, and ask each roofer to explain their approach.
How we work
We inspect for free, show you photos of what we find, and give a fixed written quote with no obligation. You decide in your own time.
